Travel to Truckee
Access to the Truckee area often involves crossing mountain passes where weather conditions change quickly. Before traveling, check the current I-80 road conditions. Drivers can view real-time traffic flow and visibility using I-80 webcams.
Those traveling from the Reno area or the Tahoe Basin should monitor mountain pass status. If driving from the south via the Mt. Rose Highway, review SR-431 Mt Rose road conditions. Drivers approaching from the South Lake Tahoe area should consult US-50 road conditions.

Regional Business Recognition
Chambers of Commerce in the region periodically recognize local organizations for their community impact.
- Reno-Sparks-Northern Nevada Chamber of Commerce: This organization presented the 2015 Business Impact of the Year Award to the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority. The award recognized the authority's development of new flights and its educational initiatives, such as the Air Service 101 course.
- South Shore Chamber of Commerce: On November 18, 2011, the Chamber presented a Blue Ribbon Award in the Public Agency Service category to Gary Weigel, a Senior Planner at the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, for customer service.
Business Development
The Truckee Chamber of Commerce maintains a directory of local businesses. Recent additions to the membership include the Tahoe Sauna Company, which joined in June 2026. The company provides custom sauna design services, with consultation fees starting at $100 and full custom packages available.
In West Placer, large-scale commercial development is underway. In April 2025, Placer County and Buzz Oates broke ground on the Placer Commerce Center. This 393-acre project on Athens Avenue and North Foothills Boulevard in Lincoln is projected to employ between 3,500 and 5,000 people upon completion.
