Dates, schedules, vendor counts, and winter driving routes for 2026 holiday craft fairs and tree lightings in Reno, Sparks, Carson, and Tahoe.

Holiday markets, artisan craft fairs, and tree lighting ceremonies run across northern Nevada and the Sierra from late November through mid-December. Weather shifts quickly at Sierra pass elevations during this corridor. Drivers crossing between the valley floor and Lake Tahoe need to monitor passes before heading out.

I-80 — open, roadwork at 2 places
  • Roadwork eastbound between Magra (Railroad) (Exit 140) and Gold Run Rd (Exit 143), traffic getting through — tree work; until 5:59 a.m.
  • Roadwork westbound between Rock Spring Rd and King Rd (Exit 112), 1 mile east of Penryn, traffic getting through — fiber optic installation; until 5:01 a.m.

Truckee Downtown Festival and Bud Fish Tree Lighting

Historic Downtown Truckee marks its 45-year tree-lighting tradition on Friday, November 20, 2026. Activities center around the Train Depot Island and 10065 Donner Pass Road.

Children decorate street trees starting at 4:15 PM PST. The Bud Fish Tree lighting and Santa's arrival both happen at 5:00 PM PST. The Rotary Club of Truckee serves hot cocoa during the event, which concludes at 6:00 PM PST.

Truckee sits at 5,817 feet along Interstate 80. Travelers coming up from Reno should check I-80 road conditions and view the I-80 at Castle Peak webcam before heading west.

South Lake Tahoe: Valhalla Holiday Faire

The 31st Annual Valhalla Holiday Faire takes place November 20–22, 2026, inside the Grand Hall at the Heller Estate (1 Valhalla Road, South Lake Tahoe). Admission is free.

The market hosts 30 local vendors, including 10 new artisans selling hand-made items alongside returning booths and food trucks:

The site is 2 miles past the intersection of Highway 50 and Highway 89, north of Camp Richardson. On-site parking spots are strictly limited. Drivers park in the dirt lot along Highway 89 and walk in. If reaching the lake via Highway 89 from the north, monitor SR-89 road conditions and US-50 road conditions across Spooner or Echo summits.

Sparks Hometowne Christmas and 39 North Pole

Victorian Square in downtown Sparks hosts 39 North Pole and the 39th annual Hometowne Christmas celebration from Thursday, December 3 through Saturday, December 5, 2026.

The 39 North Pole outdoor Christmas market features light displays, crafters, food, and entertainment on Victorian Avenue:

The Sparks annual tree lighting ceremony takes place Friday, December 4, from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM next to the gazebo at Victorian Avenue and Victorian Plaza Circle East. Mayor Ed Lawson illuminates the city's 60-foot permanent Giant Sequoia. Living Stones Church provides complimentary hot chocolate.

On Saturday, December 5, 2026, Santa photos run from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM. The Hometowne Christmas Parade steps off at 1:00 PM at Pyramid Way and proceeds down Victorian Avenue to Victorian Plaza Circle West, finishing at 2:30 PM.

Carson City Christmas Creator Fairs

The Carson City Community Center hosts the Annual Carson Christmas Creator Fairs on three Saturdays in 2026:

Each date gathers more than 60 local crafters, artisans, and business representatives. Drivers traveling south from Reno on the 30-mile corridor can verify pavement status via US-395 road conditions or view conditions at US-50 at Spooner Summit webcam if cutting over to the capital from Tahoe.
