Student Health Guidelines
The Washoe County School District maintains specific protocols for when a child should stay home due to illness. These policies apply to students and staff to prevent the spread of germs in classrooms and on buses.
A student must stay home if they meet any of the following criteria:
- Undiagnosed fever of 100.4°F or higher.
- Vomiting or diarrhea.
- Undiagnosed skin rash.
- Purulent (green or yellow) drainage from eyes, nose, or ears.
- Sore throat.
- Inability to participate in normal school activities.
A student may return to school only after being symptom-free for 24 hours without the use of medication for fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. For rashes of unknown origin, a medical exam is required to confirm the condition is not contagious. If a rash is contagious, the student must remain away until 24 hours after treatment begins.

El Dorado County Family Support
