Payment Methods and USPS Warnings
Both counties accept payments via U.S. Mail, online portals, and in-person at their respective offices.
When mailing payments, be aware of recent changes to USPS processing. As of December 24, 2025, machine-applied postmarks may reflect the date of the first automated processing operation rather than the date the item was deposited. To ensure a timely postmark, request a "manual (local) postmark" at a U.S. Postal Office retail counter.
Online payments are processed through third-party vendors. In El Dorado County, credit and debit card payments incur a 2.45% service fee, with a minimum fee of $3.95 per transaction. E-checks currently have no service fee, though this is subject to change. The county does not guarantee the availability of websites; if a site is down, taxpayers remain responsible for penalties.
For those traveling to pay in person, check I-80 road conditions, SR-267 road conditions, or SR-89 road conditions to verify road status before heading over the passes.
Duplicate tax bills can be downloaded from the respective county websites or requested by phone. Placer County residents can visit their tax portal or call 530-889-4120. El Dorado County residents can access their online tax service to print or view bills.
