What this camera shows
Sitting at 4,748 feet, this camera captures the highest point between the lower-elevation cameras at Schurz and Walker Lake. Because it sits several hundred feet above those locations, this feed often acts as an early indicator for changing weather conditions. If the lower cameras show rain or dry pavement while this feed begins to accumulate slush or snow, motorists should anticipate that precipitation levels are intensifying at the higher pass. Observing this transition allows for better planning before reaching the summit.
This live video stream provides a continuous view of traffic flow, which is particularly useful for identifying sudden slowdowns or accidents that a static image might miss. Since the stream refreshes constantly, it is effective for spotting temporary visibility issues caused by passing storms or blowing debris. If the screen appears dark or obscured, wait a moment for the feed to cycle, as shifting light or localized fog can temporarily impact the clarity of the picture.
