What this camera shows
Sitting at 4,638 feet, this intersection is the highest of the three neighboring views on this stretch, roughly 100 to 200 feet above the adjacent points at 4,528 feet and 4,436 feet. Without published chain-control checkpoints anywhere nearby, the location rarely deals with mandatory restrictions, but its higher position means it catches winter slush or freezing pavement before the lower crossings down the hill. Watching the live video feed lets you track how quickly traffic moves through the turns and whether tires are kicking up spray or slipping on packed snow.
If this crossing shows slush accumulating in the turn pockets while the lower cameras show bare lanes, freezing conditions are settling into the upper terrace first. When snow begins sticking here, drivers heading down toward the river level can tell whether wet roads will turn slick before they reach the grade, giving an immediate read on changing street-level conditions that the lower views cannot yet confirm.
