You do not have to gamble to use a Reno resort. The three largest all sit within 4 miles of each other on the south side of the city, all have pools, spas and restaurants open to non-guests in various combinations, and none of them require you to touch a machine.

Distances below are from downtown Reno at about 4,500 ft; none of these involve a pass.

Grand Sierra Resort

2500 E 2nd Street, about 2 miles east of downtown. The largest of the three and the most oriented to people who are not gambling: a spa, an outdoor pool, an aqua golf driving range out over the water, and a seasonal outdoor ice rink that runs through the winter months.

Peppermill Reno

2707 S Virginia Street, about 3 miles south of downtown. AAA Four Diamond, Tuscan-themed. Its pool complex is geothermally heated: Reno sits on a geothermal field and the Peppermill draws its own heat from it. That is why it runs year-round rather than seasonally, which none of the others manage. Spa Toscana is the wellness centre; the Fireside Lounge is the one people go to without eating.

Atlantis Casino Resort Spa

3800 S Virginia Street, about 4 miles south of downtown; 775-825-4700. Indoor and outdoor pools, the Fun Center arcade, and a spa the property lists as Reno's only Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star spa.

Getting there

All three are in the valley, so in a storm they are the easy part. The Peppermill and the Atlantis are both on S Virginia Street and 1 mile apart; the Grand Sierra is 3 miles east of them off I-580.

If you are coming over a pass, that is the part to check: I-80 from the west over Donner at 7,239 ft, US-395 from the north or south, or the Reno road conditions once you are in town.

These are commercial properties and we have no arrangement with any of them. Pool, spa and rink hours move with the season and with private bookings, and some amenities are guests-only at busy times — ring before driving out. Amenity details here come from each resort's own published information and the Nevada Commission on Tourism.
