The short answer: the best free thing in Las Vegas is the canopy show on Fremont Street, every hour from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. On the Strip, the Bellagio Conservatory is free and open 24 hours, and the fountains outside cost nothing. With a car, Red Rock Overlook needs no fee or reservation, and Seven Magic Mountains is about 22 miles south.

Fremont Street: the canopy and the concerts
The Canopy page gives showtimes at the top of the hour, 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., 7 days a week. The FAQ says each show runs about 6 minutes and is "completely free", and that the last one can come near 1 a.m. depending on the season.
The street is open 24 hours, and the FSE also advertises free concerts and live music. Glass and cans are not allowed, so drinks go in plastic cups. SlotZilla, the zip line overhead, is not free. The rest of the street is on the downtown and Fremont Street page.
Bellagio: the Conservatory and the fountains
The Bellagio Conservatory is free and open 24 hours. News3LV reported the 2026 fall display, "Casting Tranquility…Autumn Artistry", running Sept. 19 to Nov. 7, 2026. It reported that the Conservatory then closes Nov. 8 to 13 to change over, with the holiday display opening on Nov. 14.
The Fountains of Bellagio are free from the sidewalk on Las Vegas Boulevard. Bellagio sets the show schedule, and the guides that print one disagree on when the evening shows start running more often. Check on arrival rather than trusting a printed list.
The Welcome sign and the Flamingo habitat
The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign stands in the median just south of Russell Road, past the south end of the Strip. The Deuce stops at it; a 2-hour pass was $6 in 2026. The Las Vegas Sun described a small lot in the median, entered from the southbound lanes, in 2012.
The Flamingo Wildlife Habitat is free, and Caesars lists Chilean flamingos, koi and turtles. The hours are on Caesars' own page; check them there.
With a car: Red Rock Overlook and Seven Magic Mountains
Red Rock Canyon is 17 miles west of the Strip, BLM says, and its page says of the Red Rock Overlook: "No reservation or fee is required." The Scenic Drive is different: $20 per car, and from Oct. 1 to May 31 it needs a timed-entry reservation for entry between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The Red Rock Canyon page covers the drive.
In the other direction, Seven Magic Mountains is about 22 miles south of the Bellagio by road, on Las Vegas Boulevard South off I-15 toward Jean. Travel Nevada lists the stacked boulders by Ugo Rondinone as free, with a free lot, open sunrise to sunset and no facilities.
Who should not plan a day on free things
A visitor without a car gets only the city half of this list; Red Rock and Seven Magic Mountains need one. In July the airport's average high is 104.5°F (1991–2020 normals), and Seven Magic Mountains has no facilities, so go early. For paid days out, see the tours from Las Vegas or the Las Vegas guide.
Free stops from downtown to the Welcome sign, with Red Rock Canyon to the west and Seven Magic Mountains to the south.
