The short answer: the Strip is 4.2 miles of Las Vegas Boulevard, from Russell Road in the south to Sahara Avenue in the north. It falls into 3 stretches, split at Tropicana Avenue and Spring Mountain Road. The Welcome sign stands just past the south end and the STRAT just past the north end.
| Stretch | Resorts, south to north | Monorail station | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| South: Russell Rd to Tropicana Ave | Mandalay Bay (the Four Seasons is inside it), Luxor, Excalibur, New York-New York, MGM Grand | MGM Grand, the south end of the line | The shortest ride from the airport; KÀ and Michael Jackson ONE |
| Center: Tropicana Ave to Spring Mountain Rd | Park MGM, Cosmopolitan, Planet Hollywood, Bellagio, Paris, Horseshoe, Caesars Palace, The Vanderpump Hotel, Flamingo, the LINQ, Harrah's, Treasure Island, Venetian and Palazzo | Horseshoe/Paris, Flamingo/Caesars Palace, Harrah's/The LINQ | A first visit on foot; the Bellagio fountains; the Sphere a block east |
| North: Spring Mountain Rd to Sahara Ave | Wynn, Encore, Resorts World, Circus Circus, Fontainebleau, SAHARA; the STRAT just north of Sahara Ave | Boingo Station at LVCC, Westgate, SAHARA Las Vegas | The convention center and the newest resorts |
The South Strip: Russell Road to Tropicana
Mandalay Bay is the last resort heading south, with the Four Seasons inside the same complex. Luxor and Excalibur follow going north. At Tropicana Avenue, New York-New York and MGM Grand face each other across the Boulevard. By road, Mandalay Bay is about 5 miles from Terminal 1 at the airport.
The fourth corner of that crossing is the old Tropicana site. The resort closed on April 2, 2024 and was imploded at about 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 9, 2024, the Las Vegas Sun reported, to make room for the Athletics' ballpark.
The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign stands in the median just south of Russell Road. The Deuce bus stops at it, and the Las Vegas Sun described a small lot in the median, entered from the southbound lanes, in 2012. It is on the free things to do page with the rest of the no-cost stops.
The Center Strip: Tropicana to Spring Mountain
This is the stretch most first visits are built around. Park MGM, Cosmopolitan and Planet Hollywood come first. At Flamingo Road, Bellagio sits on the west side, with Paris and Horseshoe across from it; Horseshoe is the old Bally's. Caesars Palace takes the next corner north.
The Vanderpump Hotel is the 188-room resort at Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road, which held its grand opening on June 11, 2026, Fox5 reported. Flamingo, the LINQ and Harrah's follow on the east side, then the Venetian and Palazzo.
Between Caesars Palace and Treasure Island on the west side stood the Mirage, which closed on July 17, 2024. Hard Rock Las Vegas is under construction on the site. The Review-Journal quoted Hard Rock's Joe Lupo on an opening in early fourth quarter 2027; other reports said spring 2027.
The Sphere is not on the Boulevard but at 255 Sands Ave, behind the Venetian. It opened on Sept. 29, 2023 with U2, and its film now is The Wizard of Oz at Sphere, with new 4D effects from Sept. 25, 2026. What else plays there is on the shows page.
The North Strip: Spring Mountain to Sahara
Wynn and Encore come first, with Resorts World beyond them on the west side, then Circus Circus. Fontainebleau opened on Dec. 13, 2023 across the street, and SAHARA holds the corner at Sahara Avenue. The resorts are farther apart here, so the walks between them are longer.
The STRAT stands just north of Sahara Avenue. The Fremont Street Experience counts it as downtown and says some people count it as Strip, which is fair. From there the Deuce carries on north through the Arts District to downtown and Fremont Street.
Getting from one end to the other
Walking the full 4.2 miles is possible but slow. The Monorail runs 3.9 miles behind the east-side resorts, with 7 stations from MGM Grand to SAHARA and trains every 4 to 8 minutes. A single ride was $6.25 in October 2026, and it runs until midnight on Mondays and 3 a.m. Friday to Sunday.
The Deuce bus runs on the Boulevard itself 24 hours a day, every 10 to 15 minutes from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. A 24-hour pass was $8 in 2026, and the timetable warns of changed routing from Nov. 17 to 25, 2026 for Formula 1. Fares, stops and the walk between them are on Las Vegas without a car.
Who should not base a trip on the Strip
A visitor who wants older Las Vegas does better downtown, where the Four Queens says it never charges a resort fee. So does someone who wants to walk out of the hotel into the canopy show each evening.
A trip built around Red Rock at sunrise or Hoover Dam is better served by a car. The day trips from Las Vegas compare the drives. Everyone else can start from the Las Vegas guide.
