The short answer: downtown is the older Las Vegas, under a video canopy on Fremont Street. The Fremont Street Experience is 7 blocks long and open 24 hours. Its canopy show plays at the top of every hour from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., lasts about 6 minutes, and is free. The Mob and Neon museums are close by.

The canopy and the seven blocks
The Canopy page says the screen "stretches 1,375 feet overhead". The same site's FAQ gives 1,500 feet, so the two official figures disagree. The FAQ also says the first show generally starts at 6 p.m. and that the last one can come around 1 a.m., depending on the season.
The street itself never closes. Glass bottles and cans are not allowed on it, so drinks go in plastic cups. The FSE also advertises free concerts and live music, with the listings on its own site.
SlotZilla is the zip line that runs under the canopy. It opens at noon daily and closes at midnight Sunday to Thursday, and at 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. It is paid, and the price is not on the FAQ.
The casinos downtown
The 8 partner casinos are Binion's, California, The D, Four Queens, Fremont, Golden Gate, Golden Nugget and Main Street Station. Circa, Downtown Grand, El Cortez and The Plaza are also downtown.
Circa opened on Oct. 28, 2020 and is adults only, 21 and over, in every part of the resort. Its Stadium Swim has 6 pools on 3 levels facing a 143-foot screen. Guests of Circa, The D and Golden Gate can use it.
The Four Queens says it never charges a resort fee, and parking in its garage is $5 a day for hotel guests. The Fremont Street Experience garage gives a 15-minute grace period before fees start.
East of the canopy, Fremont East is the bar and live-music stretch. The FSE names Backstage Bar & Billiards and Carson Kitchen among its places.
The Mob Museum and the Neon Museum
The Mob Museum is at 300 Stewart Ave, which the museum calls steps from Fremont Street. It opens daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. General admission was $37.95 in October 2026, including The Underground speakeasy; Deluxe was $49.95. On Kefauver Day, Nov. 15, 2026, entry is free for Nevada residents with ID.
The Neon Museum keeps the old signs at 770 Las Vegas Blvd North. From September to May it opens 3 to 11 p.m., with last entry at 10 p.m. In June to August it opens 8 p.m. to midnight. Evening tickets in 2026 start at $35 and daytime tickets at $25. From Jan. 1, 2027, prices start at $21.
Getting there from the Strip
The Deuce bus starts at the Fremont Street Experience and the Bonneville Transit Center and runs 24 hours down Las Vegas Boulevard, past the STRAT to the whole Strip. A 24-hour pass was $8 in 2026, and the stop machines take cash only.
From the airport, Route 108 runs from Terminal 1 to the Bonneville Transit Center for $2; the details are on airport to the Strip.
Who should skip downtown
A trip built around the Cirque shows, the Bellagio fountains and the newer resorts belongs on the Strip, where most of the shows play. A family with children should know Circa is 21 and over throughout. For a cheap evening, the canopy pairs with the rest of the free things to do, and the Las Vegas guide covers the rest.
