Valley of Fire from Las Vegas: Fees, Trails, Closures

Valley of Fire is about 57 miles from the Strip. Entry is $10 for Nevada cars and $15 for others, and the park closes to everyone Dec 1–14.

The short answer: Valley of Fire State Park is about 57 miles from the Bellagio by road, a little over an hour each way. In 2026 a day costs $10 per vehicle with Nevada plates and $15 for any other car. The park is open sunrise to sunset all year.

Go from October to mid-May, but not Dec 1–14, when it shuts completely.

Before you drive out this autumn, read the park's alerts. The West Entrance is temporarily closed.

The drive, and the entrance that is shut

The park lies northeast of the city, off I-15 toward Mesquite. Nevada State Parks lists its West Entrance as temporarily closed in the current alerts. Check the park page for the open route before you set the GPS.

The address for the visitor center is 29450 Valley of Fire Rd, Overton, NV 89040. Overton is the town on the park's east side.

The same alert carries a warning for anyone without a car. Uber and Lyft riders may be stranded inside the park with no return ride. Drive yourself, rent at the LAS Rent-A-Car Center, or take a tour that brings you back.

Summer: May 15 to September 30

Every year from May 15 to Sep 30, the park closes these trails:

The park itself stays open from sunrise to sunset, so a summer visit becomes a drive with short stops.

Heat and water

Harry Reid airport averages 2.8 days at 100°F or more in May and 17.1 in June, under the 1991–2020 normals. Bring water for every person in the car and fill up before the park, since the visitor center keeps only 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. hours.

The cool months are the ones that work. October averages a high of 81.2°F at the airport, November 67.1°F and March 71.1°F. Our weather by month page has the rest.

December 1–14: closed to everyone

Each December the park closes for 2 weeks of maintenance. From Dec 1 to Dec 14, 2026, nobody gets in, walkers included. A holiday trip that week can go to Red Rock Canyon, 17 miles west of the Strip, or Hoover Dam instead. The park reopens on Dec 15.

Who should skip this

Anyone counting on a rideshare out and back: the park itself warns you may not get a ride home. Anyone set on Fire Wave or White Domes between May 15 and Sep 30, because both are shut. And anyone whose only free days fall on Dec 1–14.

For everyone else, a full day in the park costs $10 or $15 a car. The Las Vegas guide lists the other day trips.

Valley of Fire lies about 57 miles northeast of the Strip, with Overton on its east side.
