Paying Parking Tickets

If a parking ticket is issued, payment can be handled online. If no payment is received within 15 calendar days, a $20.00 late fee may be charged. A second $20.00 late fee may be applied after 30 calendar days. If a ticket remains unpaid for 90 days, a $10.00 fee may be added, and a Nevada DMV registration hold may be placed on the vehicle.

Paying the full balance before the late fee schedule begins prevents additional penalties and DMV holds. The City of Reno offers payment plans for those with an outstanding balance; contact Parking Services at 775-334-2293 or email [email protected] to inquire. Entering a payment plan does not remove a pre-existing DMV registration hold.

If a payment is made online but the balance still appears due, verify the transaction was debited from the bank account. If debited, forward a copy of the bank statement showing the cleared payment to [email protected]. Manual written tickets may take up to a week to appear in the online system. If a ticket is not found online, contact the office at 775-334-2293.

Resolving DMV Registration Holds

If a vehicle has a Nevada DMV registration hold due to unpaid parking tickets, the full balance must be paid to lift the hold. It takes 2–3 business days after full payment for the hold to be lifted. Once lifted, registration can be completed online or at a Nevada DMV kiosk. If attending an in-person appointment at the DMV, bring a copy of the payment receipt as proof.

Appealing a Citation

Drivers have 15 calendar days from the date and time a ticket is issued to file an appeal. No payment is required to submit an appeal, and no late fees accrue while the citation is under appeal status.

Appeals can be submitted in two ways:

  1. Written Statement: Completed online or at City Hall, 1 East First St., Floor 2 (City Clerk's office), Reno, NV 89501. The Clerk's office accepts these Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.
  2. Teleconference Hearing: In-person hearings are not currently hosted. To schedule a teleconference, contact the City Clerk’s office at 775-334-2030 or email [email protected].

Decisions on appeals can take a week or more to obtain from the hearing officer.

Handicap Zone Citations

Drivers may be eligible for a one-time courtesy dismissal for a handicap zone parking citation if they have not previously received one. Eligibility is determined by Parking Services based on citation history. To request this, email a copy of a valid, undamaged handicap placard to [email protected], including the citation number. If eligible, personnel will process the dismissal and reply with an account history summary.

For those traveling into the city from the mountains, check I-80 road conditions or US-395 road conditions before departure, as winter weather often impacts travel times and routes. If you are heading up to the slopes, monitor SR-431 Mt Rose road conditions or US-50 road conditions for the latest chain requirements.
