Public Golf Courses in Reno
Washoe County Golf Course
Founded in 1917, Washoe County Golf Course is Nevada's oldest golf course. It sits on a flat, walkable 18-hole layout without severe elevation changes or blind shots. The fairways are wide and bordered by mature trees that give some relief from afternoon summer winds, while the greens are small. Facilities include a practice area, a pro shop, and food service at The Shoe Bar & Grill.
Lakeridge Golf Course
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., Lakeridge sits in the hills on the west side of town. The layout features trees, doglegs, and fast, undulating greens. Its signature hole is the 15th, a par 3 with a tee box set high above Lake Stanley playing to an island green, with views looking out toward downtown Reno.
Wolf Run Golf Club
Wolf Run serves as the home facility for the University of Nevada, Reno Men's and Women's golf teams. The course features open mountain views, water hazards, and sand traps. Its training grounds include a practice green, a chipping green, and a driving range with a 100-yard short game area. A full-service bar and grill serves breakfast and lunch on site.
Sierra Sage Golf Course
Located north of Reno, Sierra Sage has a flat, walkable routing set against native sagebrush. Peak playing conditions run from the end of May through early September. The property has minimal tree cover, leaving it exposed to midday sun and afternoon winds. Morning tee times run calmer. Sierra Sage features one of the area's largest public practice facilities.

Red Hawk Golf and Resort
Red Hawk operates two 18-hole courses in Sparks alongside an 18-hole practice putting green, swim facilities, lodging, and David's Grill overlooking the 18th green:

- The Hills Course: Designed by Hale Irwin, this course features steep elevation changes, small putting surfaces, and deep sand bunkers.

Carson City sits 30 minutes south of Reno along US-395 road conditions and features the Divine Nine network of courses, including Dayton Valley Country Club and Empire Ranch Golf Course.
Toiyabe Golf Club, constructed as a private club in the mid-1990s, lies south toward Carson Valley. The front nine runs out into the valley, while the back nine climbs into national forest pine trees. The afternoon breeze, locally termed the Washoe Zephyr, regularly alters ball flight across the undulating greens. Drivers heading south through Carson Valley can view highway conditions via US-395 webcams.
Summer Mountain Courses
When summer valley temperatures climb, mountain courses offer cooler conditions along the passes:
- Incline Village Championship Course: Robert Trent Jones Sr. design surrounded by old-growth trees. It typically operates from mid-May through mid-October. Access from Reno follows the Mount Rose Highway; monitor SR-431 Mt Rose road conditions and SR-431 Mt Rose webcams during shoulder-season travel.
- Incline Village Mountain Course: An 18-hole par-3 executive course with tee combinations ranging from 2,674 to 3,527 yards. Rounds take approximately three hours. Open Memorial Day weekend through mid-October.
- Old Greenwood: A Jack Nicklaus Signature layout north along Interstate 80 in Truckee. It tips out at 7,518 yards and hosts the PGA Tour Barracuda Championship. Track mountain highway travel using I-80 road conditions.
