The Great Italian Festival takes over Virginia Street in downtown Reno for a weekend each October, hosted outside THE ROW. The city closes the block in front of the Eldorado and the Silver Legacy for food booths, two stages and the competitions.
Downtown sits at about 4,500 ft, and October is the month the valley turns: afternoons often reach the low 70s°F while nights drop close to freezing. It is an outdoor, street-level event — bring a layer for after dark.
Festival Location and Street Closures
The festival footprint occupies Virginia Street in downtown Reno. During the event weekend, the city closes the section of Virginia Street fronting the Eldorado and Silver Legacy to vehicle traffic.
Expect detours around the casino corridor. The closure is only a few blocks of Virginia Street, but it cuts the main north–south route through downtown and the surrounding grid backs up.
Coming from the north shore over SR-431 at 8,887 ft, or through Truckee on I-80 over Donner at 7,239 ft, work out the surface-street approach before you reach the closure. October storms do reach those elevations. From Carson City and the Carson Valley it is US-395 into the downtown exits.

Parking and Transit Options
Large crowds attend the festival each day. Parking options downtown include:
- Casino garages: most downtown casinos run garages, free and paid, within a 5-minute walk of Virginia Street. The Eldorado and Silver Legacy garages are the closest and fill first.
- Public transit: the RTC 4th Street Station is about 3 blocks from the festival footprint and is the one reliable option on a busy Saturday.

Food service is the primary focus of the festival. Vendor booths serve savory items and desserts along Virginia Street:

The festival layout includes an Italian farmers and craft market alongside local vendors selling fresh fruits, vegetables, and regional goods. A wine walk allows attendees to sample both California and Italian wines along the vendor path.
Free live entertainment runs across 2 stages for the whole weekend.
