This live video stream provides a clear view of traffic conditions at the 2,040-foot elevation mark. Because this camera sits at the lowest point of the chain control sequence, it often reveals whether traffic is moving freely or beginning to slow as vehicles approach the higher elevations of the Sierra. While the view at Colfax, located seven miles uphill, might show active precipitation or snow accumulation, this lower-elevation perspective often remains clear or shows only wet pavement. Checking this feed helps determine if the highway agency has shifted chain controls down to this level or if the lower grade remains open to all traffic.
