Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
This camera sits at an elevation of 6,095 feet, placing it right at the Kingvale chain-control point. Because this location acts as a primary staging area for highway agency restrictions, this view provides a direct indicator of where the snow line currently sits relative to the lower control points at Rainbow and Cisco Grove. If this image shows wet pavement while the camera at Castle Peak higher up the mountain displays heavy snow, chain controls are likely in the process of moving down the grade toward this location.
Since this is live video, it is useful both for judging surface conditions and visibility at this altitude and for seeing how fast traffic is getting through them. A dark or obscured frame may indicate localized fog or heavy precipitation passing through the area, so it is worth refreshing the page to confirm changing conditions before proceeding.
