The Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook Off takes place annually at the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks, Nevada. The event spans Victorian Square and features live music, craft vendors, and a barbecue competition.
Parking and Shuttle Information
Parking is available at the Nugget’s West Parking Lot and the City Parking Garage near the Galaxy Theatre.
A complimentary shuttle service runs between the Reno-Sparks Convention Center (4590 S. Virginia St.) and the RTC Centennial Plaza in downtown Sparks (1421 Victorian Avenue). Shuttle hours are:
- Wednesday through Sunday: 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.
- Monday: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
If driving from outside the immediate area, check the I-80 road conditions or US-395 road conditions before departure to identify any potential delays or construction detours.

Public Transit
The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County provides free transit service to the event. This includes the RAPID Lincoln Line and Route 11 service. The RTC also offers free ACCESS and FlexRIDE rides to and from the event.

Event Details
The cook-off features approximately two dozen barbecue competitors. Judging is double-blind, with a panel evaluating ribs for first through fifth place, best sauce, and the People's Choice award. First-place winners receive $10,000.
