- Somersett West Park: 2110 Hawk Meadow Trail
- Whitaker Park: 550 University Terrace
- Virginia Lake Park: 102 Mountain View Drive
Park Rules and Regulations
The City of Reno enforces the following rules at all designated dog parks:
- Verbal Control: Owners must remain within the fenced area in view of their dog and maintain verbal control at all times.
- Leash Requirements: Owners must have a leash in their possession at all times. Dogs must be leashed when entering and before exiting the gated area.
- Waste Removal: Owners are responsible for picking up and disposing of dog waste.
- Aggression: Dogs must be removed from the park at the first sign of aggression.
- Prohibitions: Female dogs in heat are not permitted.
- Licensing: All dogs must have a current license.
- Supervision: Small children and infants require close supervision.
- Digging: Owners must prevent their dogs from digging holes.
Failure to comply with these regulations may result in citations under Washoe County Code Chapter 55. Report dog bites to Washoe County Animal Services at 775-353-8900.
Dog Obedience Classes
The City of Reno offers dog obedience classes for dogs four months and older. Trainers must be at least eight years old. Classes cover basic commands, including heeling, sitting, standing, and staying. The cost is $100 per dog for a six-week course. Records of dog shots must be presented at the first class. Traveling to Lake Tahoe
If you are planning to transport your dog from Reno to the Tahoe Basin, be aware of seasonal restrictions at the Upper Truckee Marsh. The California Tahoe Conservancy prohibits dogs in the marsh from May 1 through July 31 to protect critical breeding habitat for threatened and endangered species. Dogs are permitted access to the Upper Truckee Marsh beginning August 1, provided they are on a leash. The Conservancy-owned Cove East property, located west of the river, remains open for year-round, leashed dog access.

Before traveling into the higher elevations, verify current road status. Check I-80 road conditions or US-50 road conditions for closures and chain requirements. If your route takes you through Carson City, monitor US-395 road conditions. For those driving toward Incline Village, verify SR-431 Mt Rose road conditions to see if chain controls are active before starting your drive.
