What this camera shows
This live video feed captures the flow of traffic along the southwest portion of the McCarran interchange. Because this camera sits at 4,483 feet, it provides a crucial look at conditions in the Reno valley floor. Watching the stream allows you to see if vehicles are maintaining speed or if traffic is backing up, which is information a static image cannot provide. Since this location is at the same elevation as the McCarran Northeast camera, comparing the two views helps determine if localized weather or accidents are affecting one side of the interchange more than the other.
Drivers should monitor this feed to judge if precipitation is accumulating on the pavement or if the lanes remain clear. While higher elevation cameras might show active snowfall or chain requirements, this view often reveals whether those conditions are making their way down into the valley. If traffic appears to be slowing or braking unexpectedly here, it is often a sign of congestion developing ahead of the higher mountain passes.
