What this camera shows
At an elevation of 2,522 feet, this camera captures a low-lying stretch of highway that is significantly lower than the Coso Rest Area located to the north. Because of this drop in elevation, conditions here can vary considerably from the higher terrain nearby. If you see clear pavement at this location while the higher cameras show active snow or ice, it indicates that winter weather is likely contained to the upper mountain passes rather than the lower desert floor.
This feed provides a still image that refreshes approximately once a minute. Because the refresh rate is relatively slow, a single dark or obscured frame may reflect temporary conditions or a momentary glare rather than a permanent closure. If the image appears unclear or completely black, check back in a few minutes to confirm whether the obstruction has cleared or if visibility has truly deteriorated across this open stretch.
