Ski resort holiday events and dates
Resorts across North Lake Tahoe and Truckee run festive ski runs throughout December 2026:
- Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe Santa Ski: December 12, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 22222 Mt. Rose Hwy, Reno. Skiers in full holiday attire receive discounted lift tickets (a Santa hat alone does not qualify). The schedule begins with a 10:15 a.m. group photo near the Lakeview Express load at the Main Lodge, followed by a 10:30 a.m. mass Santa ski down Kit Carson Bowl. A hot chocolate bar opens at 10:45 a.m. at the Totem Pole near the bowl's base, and an ugly sweater contest takes place at 1:30 p.m. inside Timbers. Check SR-431 Mt Rose road conditions and view the SR-431 at Mt Rose Ski Area webcam before heading up the highway.
- Diamond Peak Ski Resort: Santa and Penguin Pete hand out stickers and treats on December 24 and December 25, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The characters appear on the slopes and in the Base Area in Incline Village. Monitor the SR-431 at Diamond Peak webcam and SR-28 road conditions for lake-level road surfaces.
- Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Resort: Ski and Ride With Santa takes place Friday, December 25, 2026, at 11603 Slalom Way in Truckee. Lifts open at 11:30 a.m. Drivers heading west from Reno can track Interstate 80 via I-80 road conditions and the I-80 at Castle Peak webcam.
Christmas Eve torchlight parade and Christmas dinner
Granlibakken Tahoe hosts two holiday gatherings at its historic ski hill and Mountain Ballroom:
- Christmas Eve Torchlight Parade: December 24, 2026. Admission is free and open to the public. The event starts at 5:00 p.m. with music and drinks available at the Ski Hut. The torchlight parade down the ski hill begins at 5:10 p.m. (or routes along the entry roadway depending on snow coverage). Santa arrives at 5:30 p.m. aboard a vintage Tucker Sno Cat to hand out gifts to children, alongside complimentary cookies and warm drinks.
- Christmas Day Dinner Buffet: December 25, 2026, in the Mountain Ballroom. First seating runs from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; second seating runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Pricing is $115.04 for adults (including service fees and taxes), $57.52 for children ages 5 to 12, and complimentary for children ages 4 and under. Resort guests receive a 15% discount when booking in advance. The buffet includes a prime rib carving station, whole poached salmon platter, rosemary French-cut chicken breast, roasted cod with lemon-herb butter, wild mushroom and spinach Wellington, classic lobster bisque, and desserts like traditional yule log cake and gingerbread cake.

Reno Christmas tree recycling
Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) runs tree recycling from December 26, 2026, through January 10, 2027. Drop-off sites operate daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at three locations across the Reno and Sparks area. Volunteers staff morning and afternoon shifts to process incoming trees.
