What this camera shows
This live video stream captures the flow of traffic through the Northgate area at an elevation of 4,721 feet. Because this feed provides continuous movement rather than a static image, it is the most reliable way to gauge real-time traffic speeds and detect sudden slowdowns or backups that might not yet register on map applications. Watching the live stream helps identify if vehicles are struggling with wind gusts or localized slick spots that can develop quickly in this exposed section of the interstate.
Compared to the Neil Road and Plumb Airport cameras located at lower elevations of 4,478 and 4,427 feet respectively, this position serves as an early indicator of changing conditions. If this higher vantage point begins to show active precipitation or slush while the lower cameras appear clear, drivers approaching from the south can anticipate that road surface conditions are deteriorating and adjust their speed accordingly before entering the corridor.
