What this camera shows
This camera sits at 5,118 feet, making it the highest point among this specific cluster of sensors. Because it is positioned significantly higher than the cameras at Villanova and Damonte Ranch, this feed often serves as the first indicator of changing weather conditions along this stretch of the interstate. While lower elevations closer to Reno might appear clear or only damp, this view frequently captures the initial accumulation of snow or the onset of icy conditions that have not yet reached the valley floor.
Since this is a live video stream, it provides an immediate look at traffic flow that static images cannot offer. If you observe brake lights or stationary vehicles here, it often signals an incident or slowdown that has not yet impacted the lower cameras. Checking this feed alongside the ones at lower elevations helps determine if a storm is intensifying or moving through, allowing for a better assessment of whether conditions are deteriorating as you gain elevation.
