Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
At 6,161 feet, this camera sits at a critical transition point on the ascent toward Echo Summit. Because it is located essentially at the Twin Bridges chain-control station, it serves as a reliable indicator of conditions right where highway crews begin enforcing traction requirements. If you see snow accumulating here while the camera at Wrights Lake, four miles downhill, remains clear, it is a strong signal that the storm level is dropping and chain controls are likely to be activated shortly.
This feed carries live video, not a once-a-minute still. While it is useful for gauging the immediate surface conditions at this specific elevation, a dark or obscured frame can sometimes result from heavy precipitation or fog rather than a camera malfunction. It is helpful to compare this view against the higher Sierra at Tahoe camera to determine if the weather is worsening or clearing as you approach the summit.
