Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
At 4,995 feet, this view captures traffic just as it emerges from the eastern portal, heading away from the canyon. Because official chain-control points are not established in this immediate stretch, drivers cannot rely on posted checkpoints to judge changing surface conditions here. Watching the live video stream provides an immediate sense of actual vehicle speeds and whether spray is turning to slush as cars clear the bore.
The adjacent cameras covering the tunnel's eastern approaches sit at about the same height, so winter storms deliver identical conditions to each lens. However, while those viewpoints watch oncoming traffic or the opposing lanes, this frame specifically reveals how cleanly vehicles accelerate back to highway speed on the open asphalt. Tracking that eastward flow indicates whether packed snow or thermal shifts right outside the tube are slowing travel down.
