At 4,398 feet, this camera sits at one of the lowest elevations along this stretch of the interstate. Because it is positioned well below the chain-control points at Mogul and the California state line, it rarely experiences the heavy snow accumulation seen at higher elevations. Instead, this view serves as a baseline for the valley floor conditions. If this live video stream shows wet or slushy pavement, it often indicates that precipitation is reaching the urban area, suggesting that conditions at the higher control points are likely deteriorating into full winter driving requirements.
