Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
At 7,194 feet, this camera sits at the highest point of the pass, placing it well above the nearby chain-control checkpoints located at Kings Beach, Northstar Road, and Martis Creek. Because it is situated at this elevation, it often captures the first signs of accumulating snow or ice that may not yet be visible to cameras located lower down the mountain. If the view here shows heavy precipitation or snow-covered pavement while the lower cameras appear clear, drivers should anticipate that chain controls are imminent or already being enforced.
This feed streams live video, so the view moves. Because of the exposed nature of the summit, the lens can occasionally be obscured by blowing snow, fog, or low-hanging clouds. If the image appears dark or obstructed, it is worth monitoring the feed for a few cycles to see if the visibility improves or if the weather is actively shifting.

Chain-control points on SR-267
Caltrans does not control the whole road at once — it sets controls at whichever point matches the snow level, so the same storm produces controls at different places on different days. These are the California-side points, highest first:

|---|---|---|---|
| Kings Beach - (Jct. 267/28 - Stewart Way) | 6,538 ft | Kings Beach | Clear |
| Northstar Rd | 6,200 ft | Truckee | Clear |
| Truckee - Jct I-80 (aka - Bypass) | 5,967 ft | Truckee | Clear |
| Truckee Airport Rd | 5,918 ft | Truckee | Clear |
| Martis Creek | 5,833 ft | Truckee | Clear |
