Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
At 4,606 feet, this location sits in the valley floor at about the same height as Battle Mountain to the west, well below the Emigrant Eastbound Chain Up area, which lies more than 1,000 feet higher. Because the surrounding terrain stays low for miles, winter storms that coat the passes above rarely drop sustained accumulation down here. Pavement that stays bare or wet here usually indicates that freezing conditions and winter driving restrictions remain confined to the higher grades to the east.
When heavy weather does press into the lower elevations, watching the live video stream reveals sudden visibility drops and drifting across open lanes before snow begins to stick to the roadbed. If slush or settling powder appears in this view, it signals that the storm floor has collapsed into the valley and that severe conditions have already overtaken the pass ahead.
