At 4,316 feet, this camera sits at a lower elevation than the chain-control points at Mogul and Gold Ranch. Because those points are over 50 miles away and start at 4,724 feet, this view serves as a baseline for conditions well below the mountain passes. When higher cameras report snow or restricted travel, this feed often remains clear, helping identify the transition point where conditions shift from rain or dry pavement to wintry accumulation.
