At 4,839 feet, this camera sits between the Mogul and Gold Ranch control points. Because it sits higher than the Mogul station but below the state line, it provides a critical indicator for shifting weather. When conditions appear clear here but show heavy accumulation at the higher Gold Ranch elevation, it helps determine if chain requirements are moving. This vantage captures the transition zone where moisture often turns to snow as traffic climbs toward the higher Sierra passes.
