Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
Sitting roughly two miles below the control points near 5,006 and 5,019 feet, and about two miles above the 4,724-foot point, this location sits right in the transition zone where winter weather often shifts. Because higher spots can be freezing while lower elevations stay clear, watching this particular spot reveals whether the snow line is creeping down toward the valley floor or holding further up the grade.
Because this feed provides a continuous video stream rather than static snapshots, it immediately reveals traffic speed and traction. You can see whether vehicles are moving at freeway speeds or slowing to fit tire cables, rather than guessing from a single still frame. If tires are kicking up clear spray here while higher cameras show packed snow, restrictions are likely to remain further up the mountain rather than dropping down to this level.
