Because this location sits well below the chain-control points at Mogul and the Nevada-California border, it serves as a critical indicator for drivers heading west toward higher elevations. When this feed shows dry or merely wet pavement while cameras further up the grade display snow, it confirms that the most difficult winter driving conditions are still confined to the higher mountain passes.
