Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
This live video stream captures traffic flow and surface conditions at an elevation of 5,028 feet. Because this camera sits essentially at the Gold Ranch chain-control point, it provides a critical vantage point for assessing whether controls are active or shifting. If the roadway appears clear here but snow is visible on the higher Floriston camera, it indicates that the storm level has not yet dropped to this segment. Observing this feed helps determine if traffic is moving freely or beginning to slow as vehicles encounter the boundary of the control zone.
Since this camera provides a live video feed rather than a static image, it is particularly useful for spotting sudden backups or localized accidents that might not appear on maps. While the elevation is lower than the mountain passes further west, the weather here can change rapidly. If the view is obscured by heavy precipitation or darkness, check the lower-elevation feed at Gold Ranch to see if the visibility issues are confined to this specific grade or affecting the entire corridor.
