Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
Positioned roughly a mile below the 5,006-foot and 5,019-foot boundary markers, this view sits directly beneath the threshold where restrictions usually end. While cameras just a few miles farther down toward Mogul sit at 4,724 feet and often stay clear, this location catches the transition zone where slush turns into accumulating snow. Comparing pavement conditions here against higher checkpoints reveals whether the freeze is dropping lower into the canyon.
Because this feed provides continuous motion rather than an occasional snapshot, it clearly demonstrates actual travel speeds rather than static congestion. A stationary frame cannot show whether vehicles are crawling through slush or rolling freely, but the moving feed confirms instantly if traffic is backing up as drivers prepare for checks just up the grade.
