Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
Sitting at 5,879 feet, this view captures the lower approach before the highway climbs over a thousand feet toward the summit at 6,964 feet. It shares roughly the same elevation as the Moor camera nearby, making this pair the baseline for checking where the snow line actually sits. When cold storms push into the basin, rain often turns to slush right around this elevation, while the higher cameras further up the pass are already buried in full winter conditions.
Watching traffic here shows how vehicles are handling the transition onto the grade before conditions steepen ahead. The live video stream makes it easy to track whether eastbound semi-trucks are moving at posted speeds or already packing snow into the wheel tracks on the climb. If this lower stretch shows standing water or bare asphalt while the summit view is obscured by whiteout conditions, drivers can expect the slick pavement to begin just as the real climb starts.
