Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
Sitting at 6,964 feet, this view captures the actual crest of the pass, more than a thousand feet higher than the lower approaches on either side. Those flanking locations sit at about the same height as each other—below 6,000 feet—where storms frequently arrive as rain or light slush. This higher vantage reveals whether precipitation has turned entirely to sticking snow, giving an accurate picture of freezing temperatures at the ridge line long before the lower approaches whiten.
Looking at the pavement here tells you if high-altitude crosswinds are creating blowing drifts across the lanes, a severe problem on exposed crests that the lower canyon cameras simply cannot register. Tracking the live video stream reveals how fast traffic moves across the exposed summit grade, helping you spot spinning tires, sudden decelerations, or lane-blocking stalls on the climb that would otherwise remain invisible from the valley floor.
