Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
Sitting at 5,151 feet, this location registers winter weather slightly higher up the corridor than West Elko, which sits at 5,038 feet. When passing storms drop precipitation across the valley, checking here reveals whether wet asphalt in the lower basin is beginning to turn to slush or accumulating snow as the elevation starts to rise.
While its companion camera to the south sits at about the same height and faces identical ambient temperatures, this perspective catches the northern exposure where cold winds and blowing ground drifts often establish an earlier foothold. Observing the live video stream clarifies how traffic handles lane tracking and surface grip along this specific heading before committed travel toward the higher open stretches.
