Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
Sitting at 4,506 feet right against the border, this vantage monitors the valley floor long before traffic heads toward higher terrain. While the neighboring view through Pilot Valley sits at about the same height, this position shows the pavement conditions at the boundary town itself. Without active chain checkpoints anywhere nearby, winter travel here is dictated by ground-level weather rather than staged tire restrictions, making this feed a straightforward check on whether the roadway surface is dry, wet, or accumulating slush.
Checking the continuous stream helps verify whether crosswinds are pushing blowing snow across the lanes, which often cuts visibility down to nothing before significant accumulation even builds on the asphalt. Because both border-area cameras share nearly identical elevations across this open flat, comparing the two reveals how uniformly a front has settled over the eastern edge of the state, confirming whether passing vehicles are maintaining steady highway speeds or slowing down as conditions deteriorate.
