Sitting at 5,364 feet, this view shares roughly the same elevation as the feed at Halleck down the corridor. Because highway authorities publish no regular chain-control points in this stretch, drivers cannot rely on posted restrictions to gauge the surface. A clear lane here alongside winter accumulation at Wells West, roughly 400 feet higher, indicates the freezing line remains suspended across the upper bench rather than settling into the valley floor.
Ground blizzards and crosswinds frequently sweep across these open flats long before snow accumulates to any significant depth. Pavement tracking in the live video stream reveals whether blowing powder is scouring entirely clear across the travel lanes or catching in packed ruts.
