Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
Positioned at 5,881 feet, this location sits just below the summit at 6,071 feet and nearly a thousand feet higher than Susie Creek down at 4,949 feet. That puts it right where storms crossing the higher terrain begin coating the pavement, long before any winter weather reaches the lower valley below. While the nearby summit camera catches conditions over the crest itself, this view shows the actual staging area where westbound commercial rigs and passenger vehicles pull aside when tire traction requirements take effect.
Watching traffic actively pull into the bays on the live video stream reveals how crowded the pullout is and whether trucks are managing to fit into the stalls without spilling back into travel lanes. If the camera down at Susie Creek shows bare lanes while snow covers the ground here, restrictions are actively confining travel to the upper pass. It provides the visual confirmation needed to decide whether to stop early or push through to the crest.
