Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
At 5,291 feet, this location sits right at the Floriston on-ramp chain-control point, making it the first place to check when winter weather begins dropping toward the lower canyon. It marks the transition between the dry pavement often seen downstream around 5,023 feet and the heavier accumulation that develops higher up toward 5,820 feet. Watching traffic flow on the live video stream shows immediately whether vehicles are already queuing to install chains before heading higher up the mountain.
Because Boca sits only about 240 feet higher and three miles away, comparing the two views reveals whether the snow line is holding higher up or pressing down to the canyon floor. When pavement here turns slushy while lower elevations stay bare, restrictions typically expand downward to this spot next. If traffic is moving at speed past this point, the initial winter restrictions are still contained higher on the pass.
