Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
Sitting at 5,820 feet, this view captures westbound traffic just above the lower canyon checkpoints at Floriston and Boca, placing it directly at the elevation where the Overland Trail truck screens operate about a mile away. While cameras down near Floriston sit over 500 feet lower and frequently show bare, wet asphalt during warmer storms, this location reaches high enough to catch freezing slush and early accumulation. Comparing the two feeds reveals how quickly road conditions deteriorate as the highway climbs out of the canyon.
Because this location overlooks the approach to the commercial scales, the live video stream makes it easy to spot freight backups spilling onto the mainline when screening begins. Watching traffic speeds past this point confirms whether commercial vehicles are moving freely into the inspection facility or stacking up in the travel lanes ahead of higher-elevation checkpoints. When conditions turn white here, tire restrictions typically expand downward toward Boca within the hour.
