Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
Sitting at 5,150 feet, this view captures the highest elevation on this stretch of highway, roughly 500 to 750 feet higher than the approaches from either direction. When storms push across the corridor, freezing levels frequently stay above the lower approaches near 4,402 or 4,646 feet while burying this crest in slush or accumulated snow. Checking this point tells you whether winter precipitation is actively sticking to the pass before the lower valley stretches begin to cool down and deteriorate.
Because this location marks the crest between the lower monitoring points, the live video stream reveals how ground blizzards and gusts behave across the exposed grade. If the pavement here remains clear while the approach cameras show cold rain, drivers can expect open speeds over the pass, but once wind-driven snow starts tracking across this vantage, conditions through the surrounding cut can worsen long before the lower terrain shows any signs of trouble.
