Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
Sitting at 5,929 feet, this view captures the lower approach over a thousand feet below the pass at Pequop Summit. It rests at about the same height as the neighbouring Silverzone camera, giving drivers a baseline reading for where winter weather begins to take hold on the climb. Because highway agencies publish no chain-control point near this location, travellers must gauge pavement transitions by watching how conditions change between these lower reaches and the higher ridge.
When the summit feed shows accumulating snow and this lower stretch carries only wet asphalt, the freezing line remains pinned to the upper grade. Watching the live video stream reveals whether traffic continues moving at full speed or begins to slow as slush creeps downward toward this altitude. If blowing snow or freezing slush begins to coat the travel lanes here, severe winter conditions have reached the lower slopes and the pass above is almost certainly under full winter driving restrictions.
