Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
At 5,937 feet, this location sits high enough to catch heavy winter accumulation and drifting long before the lower terrain below sees freezing conditions. Sitting at about the same height as the adjacent western post, it provides an immediate check on whether storms crossing the ridge are dropping freezing precipitation or sticking snow across the upper travel lanes.
Looking east, the highway drops roughly 1,300 feet down to the valley floor. When this feed displays wind-driven snow or whitening lanes while the lower plain remains bare and dry, it reveals exactly where the frozen deck begins on the climb. Spotting how traffic handles the active surface on the live video helps determine if conditions are slick enough to warrant holding back before heading up the grade.
