Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
This camera sits at an elevation of 5,826 feet, placing it squarely between the Overland Trail control point and the Truckee location. Because this position is slightly higher than the Overland Trail screen but lower than the Truckee control point, the view often captures the transition zone where precipitation changes from rain to snow. If the highway agency initiates chain controls at the lower elevation but this view remains clear, it provides an early warning that conditions are deteriorating rapidly as you gain altitude heading east.
Since this is live video, it is worth watching for several seconds if the view appears dark or obscured by fog. A sudden change in visibility at this specific spot often precedes the enforcement of tighter restrictions at the higher Truckee control point, helping drivers anticipate the next stage of chain requirements before reaching the scales.
