Storm alerts
A notification on this device when chain control starts, changes or lifts, or a road closes or reopens. Pick your roads:
An alert is a heads-up that something changed, not a road report, and it can arrive a few minutes after the change. Before you drive, check Caltrans QuickMap or Nevada 511 (nvroads.com), or call 511. A few alerts a day at most; no account, no email, and you can turn them off here any time (what we keep).

What this camera shows
Sitting at 5,928 feet, this location shares virtually the same elevation as the Truckee chain-control point about 3 miles away. It stands roughly 400 feet above the lower control area at Boca, positioned right where valley rain commonly transitions into freezing slush or sticking snow. When pavement here turns white while lower cameras show clear asphalt, controls are usually about to expand down the grade toward Boca.
This junction reveals the immediate impact of interchange traffic entering the flow, where merging vehicles often create localized spinouts before plows can clear the lanes. The live video stream captures vehicle traction directly, showing whether tires are throwing slush or losing purchase on the ramp transitions. That visual distinction marks the difference between open speeds and the start of a crawl toward the higher chain-control lines.
